Idle No More Update in Manitoba – Feb 11, 2013

Just when you thought we were finished. This Valentine’s Day, Thursday February 14th, 2013 Idle No More is alive and well in Winnipeg Manitoba with 3 events taking place throughout the day in Winnipeg alone and the debut of our most recent public awareness campaigns. Idle No More (especially here in Manitoba) has been quietly building relationships with other activists strengthening our networks of support, sharpening our messaging and developing new strategies that educate and promote solutions that protect the environment and respect indigenous sovereignty. Some recent milestones include

  • the development of the INM Manitoba Themes
  • the successful completion of 2 National Days of Unity in January (#J11 & #J28) where activities took place throughout the province
  • the development of a curriculum education document to share with children in schools
  • the final touches are being placed on the Manitoba Unity Tour that will stop in 7 Manitoba Communities, finishing in the Whiteshell at the Spring Equinox
  • and the creation of the blog to enhance Provincial communications, and share educational resources
  • held a successful youth gatheriing at the Delta this past weekend in Winnipeg where our youth organizers, elders,  Derek Nepinak and of course the future leaders of our province, our Aboriginal youth put their heads together and strategized on next steps
  • just today, a group of youth walked from Jackhead, MB and several other First Nations communities completed a along the highway to the MB Legislative Building in Winnipeg
